Roads & Buildings Department came into existence on 01-04-1965, by merging the Buildings Wing of the Public Works Department with the Highways Department.

The Chief Engineer Roads & Buildings Department was in charge of just five circles, namely Kakinada, Eluru, Cuddapah, Headquarters and Medak Circles in 1965. By the year 1970 two more circles viz. Nellore & Warangal were added to the Department.
